World Architecture Festival Berlin Launch
Tuesday, 26 April 2016
ANCB and the World Architecture Festival are delighted to invite you to a reception celebrating the Festival's move to Berlin, which is taking place in November this year.
ABOUT WORLD ARCHITECTURE FESTIVAL
After four years, the World Architecture Festival (WAF) will be returning to Europe for its ninth edition and will take place from the 16 - 18 November at the Arena in Berlin. WAF - the world's largest, annual, international architecture event - will welcome more than 2,000 of the world’s leading architects and designers to the city for three days of conference programmes, awards, exhibitions and fringe events. The theme for this year’s festival talks programme is ‘Housing for Everyone’. This is prompted by a variety of influences, not least the situation of displaced communities (war refugees, natural and man-made disasters); the growing understanding of how demographics and global urbanization are forcing change in the way we think about ‘housing’; and the imperatives to create shelter at one end of the spectrum, and sufficiency for occupation and investment at the other. In all cases architects have a significant contribution to make, while acknowledging that far wider forces are at play. Speakers and judges confirmed already include Louisa Hutton and Matthias Sauerbruch, Ole Scheeren, Alan Balfour, David Chipperfield and Jürgen Mayer H.
The World Architecture Festival Awards sit at the heart of the Festival and celebrate global architecture excellence across completed buildings, future and landscape projects. Architects from around the world are invited to submit both their completed and forthcoming projects. Entries into the WAF awards can be made at www.worldarchitecturefestival.com/enter and are open until 19 May 2016. Shortlisted projects compete across 30 categories to be named the 'World Building of the Year' and 'Future Project of the Year' respectively, and all present live at the festival in November.
