19 September – 1 October 2015
As with the parallel studios of Universidad Diego Portales and University of Melbourne, this design studio will focus on the Kulturforum, and more specifically on Mies can der Rohe’s Neue Nationalgalerie in the context of the upcoming competition for an neighbouring Museum der Moderne. The Kulturforum was conceived as a cultural centre of the city, however, it has never functioned properly as such, and even less as an urban space or as an integrated piece of city fabric. The challenge of this studio is twofold: to try to remedy the problems in the urban precinct with the insertion of the new art museum, and to explore how the architecture of a museum responds to the specific collections it houses
