The exhibition “Horizons of Public Housing” was first shown in Madrid, all along November 2006. After has been in The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in London 2007. E.M.V.S - public housing enterprise, Madrid - has developed an impulse for social housing in the last 25 years. During this period, the policy of the E.M.V.S has generated one of the most significant transformations in the way of living in public housing, complying to the new socioeconomic requirements that society demands and offers habitations of exceptional quality.
E.M.V.S. has generated new profiles in the field of new Social Housing planning, as well as in the restoring of the historic center and the insertion of new technologies.
In 25 years rised more than 60 housing projects from international architects in cooperation with spanish architecture offices, such as: David Chipperfield Architects with M. Santolaya y J.M. Fernández-Isla, Wiel Arets with Fuensanta Nieto, Carrhiho da Graca with Inés Lobo, J.M. Fernández-Isla, MVRDV with Blanca Lleó, Ahlqvist & Almqvist with Bernar / Sainz de Vicuna Arcquitectos, Peter Cook with Gavin Robotham and Salvador Pérez Arroyo, Arata Isozaki with Manuel Serrano and Concha Rodriguez-Caro, Paulo Mendes da Rocha with Bellosillo Asociados, Diaz Urgorri with Morphosis and much else.
The exhibition shows the idea of "Horizons and Urban Mazes". It will be built to an “abstract map” in which a concept landscape will be generated, where the different ideas of the projects could exist and dialogue. This surface will be a Horizon -Table in which some of the models of most representative buildings will be shown.
The idea of geographic identity in the map of Madrid will be materialised in hanging panels. They include fotographic and local informations of each project and each site.The vertical dimension will show final images of the buildings. The horizontal dimension will show the world of ideas and the process of design also as typologies, materials, technologies and innovations.
