#6 Materiality

‘What matters?’ – Posed ever so often, this seemingly universal question might touch several realms: the ethical, political as well as the epistemological or the ontological. In all of these realms, the question of what matters relates to inquiries on the material constitution of living beings and things, and about the way they exist as bodily and sensually perceivable phenomena. Along these lines, in both music and architecture, materials and their properties are always subject to social construction, while materiality can be coined as the relationship between a phenomenon and human practice. How do these relationships determine the way we live together as a city? And what are the ways to work with them constructively?

Dialogue Concerts
On the occasion of Aedes Architecture Forum’s 40th anniversary, the series Dialogue Concerts. Conceptual Research on Architecture and Music presents a pluralistic media format, re-envisioning urban research. Architectural practice will enter into a dialogue with musical praxis.

Designed as a montage of lectures, concerts and discussions Dialogue Concerts is a series of events that will examine the interplay of urban space and communal life. Set up as an experimental interdisciplinary format, the Dialogue Concerts series is comprised of 6 events from December 2019 through December 2020. In this context,
the city is not defined as a fixed object, but as a dynamic and collective constellation that is performatively produced. More information here.
