The Aedes Aquarium
Christine Meierhofer’s artistic projects have topics like privacy and public space. They play with the understanding of spatial connections. The realization is imaginative and almost always equipped with a portion of humor to provide the public with easier access.
In The Aedes Aquarium an exhibition space, the pavilion, which’s outer form and dimensions resemble a home aquarium, is given a different determination. The space cannot be entered, because it seems to be filled with water and exotic fishes are swimming around. The basically pretty bourgeois living room accessory, with which can create holiday feeling in one’s home, is transferred from the inside to the outside. Here in Hackescher Hof III it spreads a homey atmosphere for relaxation in an ever so unpleasant season.
At the latest when an invisible person knocks on the glass one has to ask oneself, on which side of the pane one stands.
