Werner Sobek Ingenieure, Stuttgart

Werner Sobek Engineers is an engineering consultancy founded in 1991 in Stuttgart. Its works stand for dematerialization, for the search for transparency, and the use of new materials and structures, like folded membranes, adaptive building-envelopes and sandwich structures. The design of Werner Sobek Engineers is always consistent and precise, with the precision going from the smallest element (e.g. a wire rope shackle) up to the biggest unit (high-rise building).

The exhibition displays sketches, plans and models of the latest projects of the studio. Certainly best known among these projects is the residential building R 128 in Stuttgart which has won worldwide acclaim. Other projects that will be on display include the New Bangkok International Airport, the convertible roof over the Rothenbaum Stadium in Hamburg and the World Headquarters of Deutsche Post in Bonn.

Werner Sobek has been Professor at the University in Stuttgart since 1995, first as successor to Prof. Frei Otto, and since 2001 also as successor to Prof Dr. Jörg Schlaich. He is director of the Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design.

Speakers of the opening of the exhibition will be:
Kristin Feireiss, Berlin
Wolfgang Riehle, president of Baden-Württembergs chamber of architects.
